Sicilian Cooking Class
Your home for this quaint cooking class is an 18th century Sicilian villa located in Vigrande (situated on the slopes of Mount Etna). The cooking session begins with a demonstrarion of dessert preparation, followed by a hands-on lesson on fresh pasta and a second course (meatballs or eggplant involtini). A demonstration on side dish preparation is also a part of your day. Your instructor will impart knowledge of some tricks and little secrets of the Sicilian cuisine. You will learn of Sicilian history and influences from various dominations and invasions during the centuries and how they have affected regional cuisine. The day culminates into a casual evening dinner, with the food cooked together during the lesson, including mineral water and local wine.

Arrive at Catania airport, transfer by coach to Taormina and then visit this charming hillside town with its typical narrow streets. Excursion to Mount Etna – Europe’s largest active volcano, approximately 3350 meters high. To the ancient Greeks, Mount Etna was the realm of Vulcan, God of Fire and the home of the one-eyed monster know as the Cyclops. Over 1200 square meters of Etna’s surface is covered with solidified lava. Today, enjoy a half-day Sicilian cooking class with dinner to follow. Overnight at the Hotel Monte Tauro or similar. (B, D)
Our journey takes us first to the charming town of Cefalù. On arrival we have some free time to wander the medieval streets that are lined with cafés and restaurants before visiting the Norman Basilica, located close to the sea, looking more like a fortress on the outside. We then proceed along the Northern coast to Palermo. Overnight at the elegant Grand Hotel Piazza Borsa. The hotel's location is only footsteps from the squares, parks and cafés of Palermo. (B)
Guided tour of Palermo, the capital of Sicily. It has been invaded many times and this is evident in the many architectural styles that can be seen. We will visit the Cathedral, red domed Moorish church of St. John of the Hermits, the Norman Palace with its Arabic style and the Palatine and following a break for lunch, the hilltop Monreale Abbey, commissioned by William II in 1174, the Norman ruler of Sicily. Today we travel first to Segesta to admire the well-preserved 5th century Greek Doric Temple. We then continue south to Agrigento where we will have a guided tour of the Valley of the Temples, one of Sicily’s most historical attractions. The archaeological park is made up of 7 temples – Hera, Concordia, Heracles, Olympian Zeus, Castor and Pollux, Hephaestos, Demeter and Asclepius. Evening free. Overnight at the romantic 18th century boutique hotel, Hotel Baglio della Luna. With a view over the Valley of the Temples enjoy this authentic oasis of comfort and relaxation. (B, D)
We travel East along the Mediterranean coast and will stop at a local winery in the Ragusa region. Here we sample some of the rich red and white wines produced in this locality along with some local great Sicilian food. In the afternoon transfer to the port of Pozzalllo and board the ferry to Malta. (B, WT)

Begin the day with a walking tour of Valletta, Malta’s capital and a World Heritage site - Valletta is nothing short of an open-air museum. Visit St. John’s Cathedral and the Lascaris War rooms. This afternoon we visit Casa Rocca Piccola, a 16th- century palace and home of the noble de Piro family. Complete the afternoon as we watch the saluting of battery at the Upper Barrakka Gardens, a great photo opportunity offering a view of the Grand Harbour. Enjoy an evening of leisure.

Today we head to the Hagar Qim Temple, set on a hilltop overlooking the sea and the islet of Fifla, not more than 2 km south-west of the village of Qrendi. At the bottom of the hill, only 500m away, lies another remarkable temple site, Mnajdra found above the Southern cliffs. Near the village of Zurrieq we visit the Blue Grotto, a number of sea caves on the southern coast of Malta. It is here, where several caverns mirror the brilliant phosphorescent colours of the underwater flora. Enjoy some leisure time in the fishing village Marsaxlokk before transferring back to the hotel. Afternoon and evening at leisure.

Today we will take the ferry to Gozo. Upon arrival, the group will board jeeps (drivers provided) and discover the most scenic views of Malta’s sister Island and it’s amazing countryside. During the safari, you will visit sites such as the Basillica of Ta’ Pinu and more. A wine-tasting experience will take place at tal-Massar, a family run boutique winery- taste 4 different wines and 3 authentic Gozitan finger foods. Today lunch is served at Ta’ Rikardu Farm where you will also enjoy a milking and cheese making experience.

Set off to Dingli, Malta where amongst the gnarled olive trees and low-hanging carob branches, there is a family run farm set in an idyllic valley on a sun-kissed island, producing some of Mediterranean’s finest and most iconic food. Today you will experience the real life of some of the Maltese people, while enjoying some delicious tastings. Stop at the Dingli Cliffs of Malta. Return to the hotel. Evening at leisure.

Visit the Church of the Assumption of Our Lady, commonly known as the Rotunda of Mosta (The Mosta Dome), the fourth largest unsupported dome in the world and the third largest in Europe. Visit the Palazzo Parisio & Garden, often described as a miniature Versailles, this quintessentially Maltese Palazzo in Naxxar is a glorious showcase of Maltese and Italian craftsmanship originally built in 1733. Today we have also included a visit to Limestone Heritage Park. Visit the citrus gardens and participate in the making of home-made Limoncello. Return to the hotel and freshen up for the Farewell Dinner.
This evening you will enjoy an evening walking tour in Mdina – the old capital of Malta and known as the “Silent City”. Dinner will be served at Bacchus, which is set within the fortifications of Mdina, a beautiful historical building consisting of 2 chambers which date back to the times of the Romans on the island. Enjoy a typical Mediterranean dinner in a relaxed yet elegant ambiance.
